Chapter 7 - The Corporate Purge

By 8:00 AM on Monday morning, the executive boardroom on the eighty-second floor of the Sterling Tower in Manhattan was packed to capacity with senior partners, legal counsels, and primary institutional shareholders.
The media had spent the entire weekend running breathless headlines: Billionaire Halts Society Wedding at Altar to Save Daughter from Secret Abduction Plot. The scandal had sent shockwaves through the financial markets, but Lucas Sterling had spent the weekend turning the crisis into an offensive strike.
Lucas strode into the boardroom wearing a charcoal bespoke three-piece suit. He took his seat at the head of the obsidian table, flanked by Nathan Cruz, his chief legal counsel.
Lucas placed a thick leather binder on the table with a firm, resounding thud.
"Good morning," Lucas began, his voice slicing through the room with absolute authority. "Over the weekend, our forensic security audit completed an exhaustive review of all external partnerships tied to Vance Capital Holdings. We discovered that three members of this board facilitated confidential disclosures regarding the Sterling Family Trust covenants to Victoria Vance’s legal team in exchange for preferential allocations in their offshore real estate funds."
The room went dead silent. Three senior directors sitting on the left side of the table froze, the color draining instantly from their faces.
"Mr. Sterling," Nathan Cruz announced, sliding termination notices and federal grand jury subpoenas in front of the three compromised directors. "Your resignations are requested effective immediately, accompanied by the complete forfeiture of your unvested equity back into the employee trust fund. If you choose to contest this, federal marshals waiting on floor eighty-one will execute warrants for corporate conspiracy and wire fraud before 9:00 AM."

The three men did not utter a single word of protest. They signed the documents with shaking hands, gathered their briefcases, and fled the boardroom in disgrace.
Lucas looked across the remaining directors. "Sterling Global is stronger today than it was on Friday. Our ports are secure, our contracts are expanding, and our integrity remains unbroken. Meeting adjourned."
