Chapter 3 - Anatomy of an Ambush

Lucas stared at the forged signatures, the air in his lungs turning to liquid nitrogen. The realization did not arrive as shock; it arrived as a terrifying, crystalline clarity.

For eighteen months, Victoria had not been auditioning to be a loving wife and mother. She had been executing a calculated corporate extraction. Under the terms of the Sterling Family Trust, Lucas’s vast equity—controlling over seven billion dollars in commercial ports, automated logistics networks, and real estate—was legally bound to his direct biological heir. If Maya remained in his household, Victoria would always remain a secondary beneficiary with strictly limited access to capital.

But if Maya was legally declared medically incapacitated and placed in an offshore conservatorship facility before the marriage certificate was recorded with the state, Victoria’s newly signed prenuptial clauses would grant her sole discretionary control over the Sterling estate’s liquid trusts in the event of Lucas’s sudden absence or incapacitation.

Lucas slowly stood up, holding the documents in his hand like an execution warrant.

"You had a car waiting for her outside, didn't you?" Lucas asked, his voice dead and emotionless.

Victoria’s mother, Eleanor Vance, rushed down the aisle from the front row, her diamond necklace flashing under the chandeliers. "Lucas! Stop this madness immediately! Victoria has sacrificed everything for this family! You cannot take the hysterical word of a six-year-old over your bride on your wedding day!"

"The car is registered to Vanguard Transport Services, Eleanor," Lucas said, turning the third page of the document to show the transportation manifest. "A private security transport vehicle currently idling in the east parking lot behind the chapel, staffed by two private medical escorts paid out of your daughter's personal checking account."

Victoria’s father, Julian Vance, turned pale in the third pew, hastily reaching into his tuxedo jacket to pull out his phone.

"Don't bother calling them, Julian," Lucas commanded, his gaze sweeping across the Vance family. "My private security detail surrounded that vehicle three minutes ago when Maya called out to me."
