Chapter 20 - An Eternal Light

As evening fell over Westchester, the guests slowly departed, leaving the estate wrapped once more in peaceful, intimate quiet.
The sun sank low over the horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of deep violet, fiery rose, and shimmering gold. The cool evening breeze carried the scent of blooming spring flowers across the lake.
In the nursery on the third floor, Leo and Alexander were sleeping soundly in their twin walnut cribs, lulled into deep sleep by the soft melody of a brass music box playing on the nightstand.
Dante and Elena stood on the stone terrace overlooking the lake, holding hands.
Elena leaned her head against Dante’s shoulder, watching the last golden light of the sun reflect across the tranquil water.
"Do you remember that night?" Elena asked softly, her voice a warm whisper in the quiet evening. "The night under the pharmacy light in Manhattan? You were bleeding through your shirt, and I was holding a plastic bag of ice for my cracked ribs."
Dante smiled—a low, melodic sound that warmed her whole body. He turned her into his arms, wrapping his hands gently around her waist, looking down into her dark, radiant eyes.
"I remember," Dante whispered, reaching up to gently tuck a strand of dark hair behind her ear. "I thought you were a crazy girl who didn't know how dangerous the world was."
"And I thought you were a cold, dangerous man who needed someone to save him," she countered softly, her hands resting over his heart.
"You did save me, Elena," Dante said, his dark eyes shining with absolute sincerity. "You saved my soul. You brought me out of the shadows and gave me a life I never dared to dream of."
Elena reached up, her small hands cupping his strong jawline, pulling his face down to hers.
"We saved each other, Dante," she whispered against his lips. "And our love will last forever."
Their lips met in a deep, sweet, eternal kiss as the stars began to glitter in the dark sky above Westchester.
