Chapter 15: The Last Word

The final sentencing hearing lasted only one day.

Nathan’s team laid out every piece: the abuse footage, the missing witness, the stolen foundation funds, the coerced will, the threats against the children and their allies.

Victoria had nothing left to say. She sat silent as the judge read the verdict:

"Guilty on all counts. Sentenced to thirty years in a maximum-security facility, with no possibility of early release. All claims to assets, custody, and foundation control are revoked permanently."

When the gavel fell, Victoria looked at Nathan one last time. There was no anger, no smile—only emptiness.

Outside, the sun was bright. Liam, Emma, and Jacob ran ahead, laughing as they chased each other across the courthouse lawn. Lila walked beside them, holding Emma’s hand.

Nathan watched them go. He had built a billion-dollar empire, but this—this light, this safety, this freedom—was the only thing that had ever really mattered.

He pulled out his phone and called his lawyer. "Start the process to rewrite the will. Everything goes to the children. And set aside a fund for every child like them—every child who ever had to wait for someone to notice their silence."

Somewhere, a door clicked shut. But this time, it was locking out the darkness—for good.
