Chapter 13: The Insider
They found the source before sunrise. It was the head of Victoria’s former foundation staff—someone Nathan had kept on out of loyalty, someone who had been with them for ten years.
"I didn’t have a choice," she cried as agents led her away. "She said she’d hurt my granddaughter if I didn’t help. She knew where she went to school. She knew her address."
Nathan sat in the quiet kitchen, watching the children sleep in the next room. He thought of how many people Victoria had manipulated, how many threats she had made, how far she would go to hold onto control.
He called his lawyer. "We’re not just charging her with abuse anymore. Add fraud, identity theft, witness tampering, and conspiracy to commit theft. Every last charge that sticks."
But as he hung up, his phone buzzed with one last message—from an unknown number: You think you’ve won? Wait until you see what’s in your will.
