Chapter 6 - THE GARDEN OF REBIRTH

One year later.
The grand courtyard of the Moretti estate was transformed into a paradise of blooming flowers.
Hundreds of pure white roses climbed up the stone archways, filling the cool spring air with a sweet, delicate fragrance. The heavy security guards were still present along the perimeter, but today they wore formal black tuxedos, carrying silver trays of champagne and smiling as elegant guests arrived.
The entire Commission was present—including old Don Giancarlo Ricci, who had retired from the syndicate and now lived a peaceful life in Florida. He had traveled all the way to Chicago to attend the wedding, offering his full blessing to the union that had brought true peace to the city.
In the grand dressing suite on the second floor—the very room where a dark tragedy had been averted a year ago—Sophia stood in front of a full-length mirror.
She wore an exquisite, custom-designed white silk bridal gown that draped over her graceful figure like liquid pearl. A delicate lace veil covered her hair, which was styled in soft, elegant curls.
Beside her, seven-year-old Lena wore a matching white flower-girl dress, holding a small basket filled with fresh white rose petals.
"You look like a real queen, Mama," Lena gasped, her eyes wide with wonder.
Sophia turned to her daughter, kneeling down in her gown to adjust the little girl's silver headband. "We are safe now, my darling. We are home."
A soft knock sounded at the door.
Dante stepped inside, wearing a pristine black tuxedo, holding a small wooden box.
"It's time, Mrs. Moretti," Dante said with a warm, respectful smile. "The Don is waiting at the altar."
Sophia stood up, taking a deep, steadying breath. "Thank you, Dante."
Dante opened the wooden box, pulling out a breathtaking diamond-and-emerald necklace that had belonged to the very first matriarch of the Moretti family. He carefully fastened it around Sophia’s neck.
"The boss insisted you wear this today," Dante said gently. "He said nobody else in the world deserves it more."
Ten minutes later, the grand doors of the conservatory swung open.
A brass quartet began to play a slow, majestic processional melody.
Standing at the end of the white-carpeted aisle, surrounded by towering walls of white roses, was Lorenzo Moretti.
He wore a bespoke black tuxedo, his hair immaculately groomed, his tall frame radiating a magnificent, undisputed authority. But as his dark eyes locked onto Sophia walking toward him down the aisle, holding Lena’s tiny hand, his cold mafia facade completely melted away, leaving behind a man filled with profound, weeping gratitude.
The guests stood up, clapping softly as Sophia reached the altar.
Lorenzo stepped forward, taking Sophia’s hand in his. He looked down at Lena, reaching down to gently pinch her rosy cheek before turning his full attention to his bride.
The elderly priest smiled at the couple.
"We are gathered here today," the priest began, his voice echoing through the flower-scented hall, "to unite Lorenzo Moretti and Sophia Bellini in holy matrimony. A union forged not by politics or power, but by truth, courage, and unconditional love."
When the time came for the vows, Lorenzo didn't look at his written notes. He took both of Sophia’s hands in his, speaking directly from his heart.
"Sophia," Lorenzo said, his deep voice carrying a slight tremble of deep emotion. "A year ago, I was a man living in a world of stone and shadow. I thought power was built with weapons and fear. But then you walked into my life—a woman who risked everything to protect what was right. You taught me that true strength is found in gentleness, and true power is found in love."
He slipped a heavy, flawless diamond ring onto her finger.
"I promise to love you, honor you, and protect you and Lena with every breath in my body for as long as I live," Lorenzo swore.
Sophia looked up at him, tears of happiness glistening like diamonds in her eyes.
"Lorenzo," she whispered, her voice clear and strong. "You looked past my apron, past my poverty, and saw my dignity. You gave me a home when I was lost, and you gave my daughter a father. My heart, my life, and my soul are yours forever."
She slipped a gold band onto his finger.
"By the authority vested in me," the priest declared with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride!"
Lorenzo didn't hesitate. He pulled Sophia gently into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips against hers in a long, passionate kiss that drew thunderous applause from the entire crowd.
Lena cheered loudly, tossing her handful of white rose petals into the air, letting them shower down upon her parents like a cloud of pure white rain.
Lorenzo lifted Sophia into his arms, turning toward the cheering guests, his face glowing with a triumphant, radiant happiness.

The dark days of suspicion, betrayal, and violence were officially over.
As the sun set over Lake Michigan, casting a warm golden glow across the estate, Lorenzo and Sophia walked hand in hand out into the garden—a king and his true queen, ready to rule their empire together in light, love, and eternal peace.
