Chapter 10 - A Beautiful New Canvas

One year later.

The Newport Coast mansion looked different. The cold, sterile "thunderstorm" abstract painting was gone from the glass office wall. In its place hung a massive, vibrant, beautifully messy canvas filled with bright yellows, ocean blues, and golden sunshine—painted entirely by Lily Parker.

The house no longer felt like a lonely glass fortress. It smelled of homemade chocolate chip cookies, sound echoed with real laughter, and the Pacific Ocean through the windows finally looked real, warm, and welcoming.

Ethan Vale stood on the balcony, watching the sunset paint the sky in shades of pink and gold. He looked down at the beach below. Nora was walking along the shoreline, wearing a sundress, her laughter carrying over the sound of the crashing waves. Lily was running ahead of her, chasing a golden retriever puppy Ethan had bought her for her eighth birthday, her scuffed sneakers finally replaced with bright red running shoes.

Ethan smiled, a deep, abiding peace settling into his chest.

Following the exposure of Derek and Vanessa, Ethan had completely overhauled his life. He didn't just launch Lattice to historic success, making Vale Harbor Systems the most valuable security firm in the world; he used his wealth to change the lives of the people who had saved him.

Nora was no longer a cleaning lady. Ethan had sponsored her through a business management degree, and she was now the Executive Director of the newly founded Vale Parker Foundation, a multi-million-dollar non-profit dedicated to providing housing, education, and security for single mothers and their children in Southern California. She had her own office on the 40th floor, right next to Ethan's.

And Lily was thriving. She attended one of the top private academies in the state, her brilliant, observant mind constantly challenged by advanced logic, mathematics, and art puzzles.

But their bond went deeper than business or philanthropy. Over the past year, the professional gratitude between Ethan and Nora had blossomed into a deep, tender, and unwavering love. They had healed each other’s loneliness—Ethan providing the safety and family Nora had always prayed for, and Nora providing the soul and warmth Ethan had never known he was missing.

"Hey, Chief Detective," Ethan called out as Lily ran up the stairs from the beach, the puppy trotting happily at her heels.

Lily slid onto the balcony deck, her cheeks flushed from the ocean air. "Hi, Ethan! Look, I found a sea glass piece shaped exactly like a heart."

She held up the smooth, frosted green glass proudly.

Ethan knelt down, looking at the glass, then looked up as Nora walked up the stairs, joining them on the balcony. Ethan reached out, taking Nora's hand, squeezing it gently. Nora smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder.

"You know, Lily," Ethan said softly, looking at the little girl who had changed his destiny with a single whisper. "You have a habit of finding the most valuable things hidden in plain sight."

Lily grinned, slipping the sea glass into her pocket and throwing her arms around both of them in a warm, tight hug.

"That's because I'm a detective," Lily said proudly, looking out at the endless, beautiful ocean. "And detectives always find where the love is hidden."
