Chapter 9 - The Harbor of Peace

Spring arrived with a dramatic thaw, breaking the ice on Lake Michigan and turning the gardens of the Lake Forest estate into a sea of vibrant green sprouts and blooming white roses.
It was an early Tuesday morning when Clara’s contractions began.
Unlike the chaotic night of their wedding or the harrowing siege of the mansion, this moment was marked by quiet efficiency and gentle love. Marco did not panic. He calmly carried Clara’s bag to the waiting corporate SUV, held her hand through every surge of pain, and drove her personally to the Northwestern Memorial Hospital—to the new maternity wing that had been built through the foundation’s donations.
Inside the private delivery suite, surrounded by top-tier medical staff and under the watchful eye of Old Gianni and Santino guarding the hallway out of habitual loyalty, Clara brought their second child into the world.
At 8:14 AM, the quiet room was filled with the clear, healthy cry of a newborn baby boy.
The nurse wrapped the infant in a soft blue blanket and placed him gently into Clara’s exhausted, waiting arms. Clara wept softly with joy, her dark hair damp against her forehead, her face glowing with pure light.
Marco sat on the edge of the bed, his broad shoulders trembling as he looked down at his son. His hand, which had once wielded terrible power in the underworld, reached out with exquisite gentleness to brush a thumb against the baby’s silky dark hair.
"He has your eyes, Marco," Clara whispered, looking up at him through her tears.
"No," Marco choked out, his voice thick with overwhelming love. "He has your soul, Clara. He is pure."
The door opened softly, and Lily brought Mia into the room. Mia tiptoed over to the side of the bed, her eyes wide with wonder as she peeked over the edge of the blanket.
"Is he here?" Mia whispered.
"Come look, Mia," Clara said softly, shifting the blanket slightly so the little girl could see the baby’s tiny face. "Meet your baby brother."
Mia reached out a tiny finger, and the newborn baby’s hand instinctively opened, his tiny fingers curling firmly around her thumb. Mia gasped in delight, looking up at Marco and Clara with a radiant smile.
"What’s his name, Daddy?" Mia asked.

Marco looked at Clara, a silent message passing between them—a choice they had made weeks ago in the quiet sanctuary of their library.
"His name is Leo," Marco said softly, his voice echoing with profound meaning. "Leo Matteo Leone. Named after the lion, but born into the light."
