Chapter 9 - A Second Chance at LightTwo years after the divorce, I was invited to speak at a global charity gala hosted in Geneva, Switzerland.

The event was organized by Vance & Sterling Philanthropy—a foundation managed by Julian Vance, an international human rights attorney and the elder brother of the investigator who had helped my father two years prior.

Julian was nothing like Kyle. He was quiet, intellectually brilliant, effortlessly kind, and utterly unimpressed by wealth or corporate titles.

When we met in the green room before my speech, he offered me a warm cup of herbal tea instead of champagne.

"You look like you've had a long flight, Ms. Calder," Julian said with a soft, warm smile.

"I have," I chuckled, taking the cup. "And please, call me Isabella."

"Only if you call me Julian," he replied, his amber eyes holding mine with a genuine warmth I hadn't felt in a long time.

Throughout the evening, Julian didn't try to impress me with grand gestures or boasting stories. He listened when I spoke. He asked about my passions, my visions for the foundation, and my love for art. He saw me—not my fortune, not my surname, and not my past.

Over the next several months, our professional collaboration gradually blossomed into a deep, steady romance. For the first time in my life, I learned what it felt like to be loved by a man who was strong enough to stand beside me without feeling diminished by my power.
