Chapter 8 - A New Foundation

With the trial over, I decided to redirect the funds that would have been spent on the grand wedding toward something truly meaningful.

We established the Ivy & Carol Bennett Foundation for Vulnerable Families—a non-profit organization dedicated to providing safe housing, legal assistance, and healthcare for single mothers and domestic staff facing workplace abuse.

On a bright autumn afternoon, hundreds of community members gathered outside a beautiful new stone building in the city center for the grand opening.

Carol stood at the podium, wearing a chic burgundy dress, her voice ringing clear and strong through the microphone.

"Fourteen months ago," Carol spoke to the crowd, "I was a woman who lived in fear. I thought my voice didn't matter because of my job. But I learned that real nobility isn't found in wealth or titles—it is found in courage, truth, and the people who stand up for those who cannot defend themselves."

The crowd applauded wildly.

I stood beside Rebecca in the front row, holding little Ivy on my hip. She clapped her tiny hands, beaming with pride as she watched her mother speak.

"You did good, Nate," Rebecca murmured, placing a warm hand on my arm. "You turned a terrible nightmare into something that will save thousands of lives."

"We did it together, Bec," I smiled, kissing my sister's cheek. "We did it together."
