Chapter 5 - The Public Humiliation
In the grand chapel, three hundred high-society guests were whispering among themselves as the organist played the same prelude music for the third time.
Suddenly, the heavy oak doors at the back of the chapel swung open.
The guests turned, expecting to see the breathtaking bride walking gracefully down the aisle.
Instead, they saw two uniformed police officers leading Vanessa Hale down the center aisle in heavy steel handcuffs.
Gasps of pure shock erupted through the chapel as phones were pulled out, camera flashes strobed, and murmurs turned into a deafening roar. Vanessa’s veil was crooked, her face was red with humiliation, and she screamed at the officers as they marched her past her wealthy friends and socialite peers.
"Get your hands off me!" Vanessa shrieked, thrashing against the officers' grip. "Do you know who I am?! I am about to be a Cross!"
Nathaniel stepped up onto the altar stage, taking the microphone from the shocked pastor.
The entire chapel went dead silent.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Nathaniel’s powerful voice echoed through the speakers. "I apologize for the delay. The wedding between myself and Vanessa Hale has been officially canceled."

"Vanessa Hale is currently under arrest for felony assault, extortion, and child endangerment," Nathaniel announced clearly, his voice carrying the absolute authority of a man who owned the room. "The Cross family does not tolerate cruelty, abuse, or fraud. I thank you all for coming today, and I invite you all to stay for a celebration—not of a marriage, but of truth, justice, and the safety of those who work under my roof."
In the front row, Rebecca stood up and began to clap. Within seconds, the entire chapel stood up, joining in a thunderous ovation for the billionaire who chose honor over a toxic illusion.
