Chapter 7 - The Final Resistance

Three weeks after Victoria’s arrest, my older half-brother, Sterling Whitaker—who had spent years living a quiet, luxury life in London—arrived in New York to launch a desperate legal counter-attack.

Sterling believed that with Victoria facing federal charges, he could manipulate the board of directors into naming him CEO of Whitaker Enterprises, pushing me out of power entirely.

At 10:00 AM on Monday, Sterling walked into my private office at the corporate headquarters on Fifth Avenue, flanked by three high-priced corporate defense lawyers.

"You've dragged this family name through the dirt, Julian," Sterling sneered, tossing a legal motion onto my glass desk. "You brought a street waitress and four illegitimate kids into the spotlight, destroying our stock value by twelve percent!"

I leaned back in my leather chair, looking at him with cool indifference. "The stock value recovered three points yesterday, Sterling. And those four kids are the rightful heirs to this company."

"Not if the board votes to enforce the morality clause in your executive contract," Sterling smirked, pointing a finger at the paperwork. "A CEO who cancels a high-profile merger, gets his own mother arrested, and creates a public media circus is unfit to lead. We have the votes to terminate you today."

I picked up my desk phone and pressed the intercom button. "Marcus, bring them in."

The heavy mahogany doors of my office opened, and five people walked in: the three largest institutional shareholders of Whitaker Enterprises, followed by Assistant District Attorney Helen Vance.

Sterling’s confident smirk vanished instantly.

"What is this?" Sterling stammered, taking a step back.

"This is your wake-up call, Sterling," I said, standing up from my chair. "While you were flying across the Atlantic, my legal team discovered that you helped Mother set up those Cayman Island shell accounts six years ago. You signed off on the wire transfers used to harass Mara's father."

ADA Vance stepped forward, holding an arrest warrant. "Sterling Whitaker, you are being charged as a co-conspirator in federal financial fraud and obstruction of justice."

Sterling turned pale, looking at his lawyers, but they silently stepped away, refusing to intervene.

"You tried to fight me for a crown, Sterling," I said quietly as the officers handcuffed him. "But you forgot that I built this company with my own hands. Get him out of my sight."
