Chapter 4 - The Poisoned Paperwork

By Thursday morning, my private investigative team—led by former FBI agent Marcus Vance—arrived at my penthouse with two thick leather-bound binders filled with financial records, forged contracts, and recorded phone transcripts.

Marcus laid the files out across the dining table while Mara put the boys down for an afternoon nap in the guest suite.

"Your mother didn't just threaten Mara's father, Julian," Marcus began, pulling out a set of bank statements from six years ago. "She executed a corporate hit job."

"Explain," I demanded, setting my coffee cup down.

"Victoria used offshore shell accounts linked to Whitaker Enterprises to secretly purchase the mortgage on Mara's father's medical clinic," Marcus explained, pointing to a series of wire transfers routed through the Cayman Islands. "Once she controlled the debt, she manufactured a fake malpractice lawsuit against him using corrupt attorneys."

My stomach turned. "She ruined an innocent doctor just to drive Mara away?"

"It gets worse," Marcus continued, flipping to the second binder. "When Mara gave birth to the quadruplets in Chicago, Victoria had a private security firm monitoring her every move. Victoria bribed a hospital administrator to alter the boys' birth certificates, leaving the father's name blank, and actively blocked Mara from receiving state medical assistance."

"She kept them in poverty on purpose," I whispered, horror rising like acid in my throat.

"Yes," Marcus nodded grimly. "She wanted Mara to be so overwhelmed by financial hardship that she would eventually break and surrender the children to an adoption agency. Victoria planned to 'discover' the boys years later through a private agency and adopt them herself, raising them under her strict control without Mara ever being in the picture."

The sheer sociopathic scale of my mother's obsession left me speechless. She hadn't just separated two people who loved each other; she had tried to orchestrate the systematic destruction of a mother to steal her children.

"Where is the hospital administrator now?" I asked, my voice dropping into a dangerous, icy tone.

"He's living in Miami," Marcus replied. "And for fifty thousand dollars, he signed a sworn affidavit detailing every payment he received from Victoria Whitaker."

I closed the binder with a heavy thud. "Get the legal team on the phone. We are filing for emergency sole guardianship, a permanent restraining order, and criminal fraud charges."
