Chapter 6 - A Father’s Vow

The news of Victoria Whitaker’s arrest swept through Manhattan like a tidal wave. By Saturday morning, every major newspaper and financial outlet featured front-page stories exposing the scandal that had shattered one of New York's oldest dynasties.
Inside my Tribeca loft, however, the chaos of the city felt a world away.
I sat on the living room floor surrounded by colorful building blocks, race cars, and drawing pads. Milo was carefully constructing a tall tower, while Mason and Max were racing plastic cars across the hardwood floor. Micah sat in my lap, leaning his head against my chest as I read him a storybook.
"Dad?" Micah asked softly, looking up at me with his bright gray-blue eyes.
My heart skipped a beat. It was the first time any of them had called me 'Dad' without hesitation.
"Yeah, buddy?" I whispered, resting my hand gently over his head.
"Are we going to stay here forever?" he asked. "No more storage rooms? No more cold cars?"
I swallowed the lump in my throat, pulling all four boys into a tight, warm embrace. Milo dropped his building blocks and wrapped his small arms around my neck, followed closely by Mason and Max.
"Never again," I promised them, my voice thick with emotion. "You four are never going to worry about a place to sleep, a warm meal, or feeling unsafe ever again. This is your home. And I am never letting you go."
Mara watched us from the doorway, wiping away quiet tears of profound relief.
That afternoon, I officially signed papers creating an irrevocable trust fund for Milo, Mason, Max, and Micah, securing their futures with total financial independence that no corporate board or family interference could ever touch.
