Chapter 8 - THE MAN BEHIND DANIEL

Daniel's arrest wasn't the end.
It was the beginning.
Investigators followed the money.
The shell companies led to another corporation.
That corporation belonged to a private investment group.
And that group was controlled by a man named Victor Hale.
Victor wasn't a stranger.
He had been Daniel's mentor.
He had helped Daniel build his business.
He had also been secretly financing the scheme.
Michael showed me the records.
“Victor planned this.”
“What did Daniel do?”
“Executed it.”
“And Celeste?”
“Complicated.”
She had originally been recruited to help.
Then she discovered the truth.
That's why Daniel paid her.
That's why he threatened her.
And that's why she finally turned.
The bigger surprise came from the trust.
My grandfather hadn't merely protected my inheritance.
He had created an independent oversight structure.
If anyone attempted to fraudulently transfer the trust, the entire structure would trigger an investigation.
Daniel had unknowingly activated it.
The trust froze every related account.
Victor lost access to millions.
The company collapsed within weeks.
Employees were protected.
Creditors were paid.
And the house remained mine.
Daniel eventually pleaded guilty to several financial charges.
But he still wanted something.
Forgiveness.
He wrote me a letter.
I read it once.
I was selfish. I thought success meant control. I thought I could have everything without losing anything. I was wrong.
I folded the letter.
I didn't forgive him.
Not yet.
May you like
Maybe someday.
But forgiveness wasn't required for healing.
