Chapter 16 - THE TRUTH ABOUT RICHARD

Grace couldn't believe what she was hearing.
"From me?"
Richard nodded.
"Your grandfather's final protocol was activated when you accessed the trust."
"What protocol?"
"Control."
He explained everything.
The trust wasn't merely financial.
It controlled a network of private companies.
Security firms.
Investment funds.
Political contracts.
Offshore accounts.
The person who controlled the trust could influence billions.
Grace stared.
"And you wanted me to control it."
"No."
Richard looked at her.
"I wanted you to destroy it."
That changed everything.
"Why?"
"Because I built it."
Grace's eyes widened.
"Then why?"
Richard lowered his head.
"I believed money could protect people."
He laughed bitterly.
"It only taught me how easily people could be bought."
Elena stepped forward.
"Your father spent years trying to dismantle the organization."
"Then why did he betray me?"
Richard looked at her.
"Because Victor found out."
Grace stared.
Victor.
Again.
Richard continued.
"Victor threatened Noah."
Grace's jaw tightened.
"So you kidnapped him."
"I moved him."
"You took him from his father."
"I took him away from the people who were watching him."
Daniel stepped forward.
"You could have told me."
Richard looked at him.
"I didn't trust you."
Daniel nodded.
"Fair."
Grace looked between them.
Then her phone rang.
Michael.
"Grace, I found something."
"What?"
"The trust isn't controlled by you."
Grace frowned.
"What?"
"There's another beneficiary."
"Who?"
Michael paused.
"Your son."
Grace's heart stopped.
"What?"
"Someone created a second trust."
"For Noah."
"Who?"
"The beneficiary record lists the trustee as..."
Michael went silent.
Grace's voice sharpened.
"Michael?"
He finally answered.
"Victor Hale."
Everyone froze.
Grace whispered:
"Victor controls Noah's trust?"
"Yes."
Then a message arrived.
From Victor.
COME ALONE.
Below it was an address.
Grace looked at Daniel.
Then Richard.
Then Elena.
She understood.
This was the trap.
But she had no intention of walking into it unprepared.
"Michael."
"Yes?"
"Freeze Noah's trust."
"I can't."
"Why?"
"It's already been activated."
Grace's face went pale.
"When?"
"Tonight."
A second message arrived.
THE BOY IS THE KEY.
Grace looked at Noah.
Then toward the darkness outside.
Victor wasn't interested in her money anymore.
May you like
He wanted her son.
And that meant Noah had inherited something far more dangerous than wealth.
