Sophie sat on a picnic blanket in the estate’s sprawling gardens, watching Matteo try to crawl toward a brightly colored ball. She wore a simple white sundress, her face radiant and healed from the ghosts of her past. She had saved Matteo, and in return, this little boy had saved her.
Dominic walked across the grass, holding two glasses of iced tea. He wasn't wearing a charcoal suit today; he wore a casual linen shirt, the harsh lines of his face softened by a profound, enduring peace. He handed her a glass and sat beside her, gently pulling her close.
"He's getting fast," Dominic smiled, watching his nephew tumble over the grass.
