Chapter 7 - The Code of Honor

The gunfire upstairs had dwindled to a tense standoff. Dominic was bleeding from a graze on his shoulder, cornered in the study, while Julian stalked closer, a victorious grin on his face.
Suddenly, the hidden bookshelf door swung open. Sophie stepped out, her eyes blazing, clutching the micro-USB and the letter. Nico was right behind her, holding Matteo.
"Stop!" Sophie shouted, holding the letter high. Julian’s men aimed their weapons at her, but she didn't flinch. She looked directly at Julian’s highest-ranking capo. "Your boss didn't just abandon his child. He poisoned a pregnant woman. He violated the Commission's oldest law!"
Julian’s face went pale. "Shoot her! She's lying!"
But the capo hesitated. He snatched the letter from Sophie’s hand, recognizing Elena's handwriting and the forensic lab reports she had secretly compiled. The capo lowered his gun, looking at Julian with absolute disgust. In their world, betraying the code was an instant death sentence.

"You have no honor, Julian," the capo spat, signaling his men to stand down. They backed away, leaving Julian completely alone.
Dominic didn't hesitate. He stepped forward and fired a single, definitive shot. Julian collapsed, the threat to Matteo erased forever.
