Chapter 4 - The Iron Gates Breached

The storm outside mirrored the violent shift in the room. Dominic’s eyes darkened to pitch, all vulnerability instantly hardening into the cold, calculated stare of a syndicate king. He turned from Sophie, pulling a sleek handgun from his shoulder holster, checking the chamber with a sharp, metallic click.
"Take her to the vault," Dominic ordered Nico, his voice devoid of panic but heavy with lethal intent. "Lock the steel doors. If the DeLucas breach the house, you do not open that door for anyone but me. If I don't come back, you take the underground tunnels to the safe house."
Sophie clutched Matteo tightly, her pulse roaring in her ears. "Dominic, what is he going to do?"

"Julian is a coward who relies on numbers," Dominic said, stepping out into the hallway. He paused, glancing back at her one last time. "Keep my son safe, Sophie."
Before she could answer, Nico grabbed her elbow, ushering her down a hidden service corridor. They descended deep beneath the mansion, the air growing cold and damp. The vault was a titanium-reinforced panic room. As the heavy door sealed shut behind them with a deafening hiss, Sophie sank to the floor, cradling the sleeping infant. She wasn't just a waitress anymore; she was the only shield this baby had.
