“You can come here whenever you want.”
“Even without Mommy?”
“Yes.”
She thought.
“Can I plant flowers?”
“Of course.”
“What kind?”
“Whatever you want.”
She smiled.
Then looked at me.
“Mommy?”
“Yes?”
“Can we stay?”
I knew what she meant.
My job.
Our home.
Our future.
I looked at Marcus.
He nodded.
“You're not just an employee anymore.”
I frowned.
“What does that mean?”
“You're running the foundation's children's program.”
I stared.
“Sir—”
“Marcus.”
He smiled.
“Call me Marcus.”
I laughed.
“Okay.”
Lily hugged my leg.
“Mommy has a new job!”
Marcus smiled.
“Yes.”
And for the first time, I realized something.
