Richard looked at Marcus.
“I wanted you to inherit everything.”
“I didn't want your empire.”
Richard stared.
“Then what do you want?”
Marcus looked at me.
Then Lily.
“A life.”
Richard laughed.
“You think you can walk away?”
Marcus nodded.
“Yes.”
He held up the drive.
“Because the truth is already everywhere.”
Police sirens sounded outside.
Vanessa's face changed.
Marcus had sent the files to federal investigators.
Richard looked at Daniel.
“Did you?”
Daniel shook his head.
“No.”
Richard looked at Eleanor.
She smiled.
“No.”
Then Marcus looked at me.
“Lily did.”
I smiled.
He had left the drive beside my daughter's tablet.
She had accidentally pressed the upload button.
The entire file had been sent.
Vanessa ran.
