Chapter 8 - The Fall of the Whitlocks

The look of utter, catastrophic defeat on Richard Whitlock's face when he saw the leather notebook in Caleb's hand was a masterpiece of poetic justice. He tried to lung forward, screaming curses, but the federal agents slammed him back against the hood of the car, tightening his handcuffs.

Attorney General Vance stepped forward, taking the notebook from Caleb. She scanned the first few pages, her expression turning from professional skepticism to absolute shock as she saw the sheer scale of Whitlock's corporate fraud and treasonous smuggling operations.

"Mr. Whitlock," Vance said, turning her gaze coldly to the trembling shipping magnate. "You are under arrest for federal wire fraud, grand larceny, corporate embezzlement, and the first-degree murder of Aaron Carver. Take him away."

As the sirens faded into the distance, carrying the Whitlock legacy straight to a maximum-security prison cell, the dark clouds above Providence finally began to break, allowing a single, brilliant beam of morning sunlight to pierce through the gray mist over the bay.

Daniel turned to me, a rare, genuine smile softening his rugged features. "It’s over, Hannah. The waterfront is clean. Aaron’s killers are behind bars. And your brother is home."

I looked down at my belly, placing both hands over the gentle curve where our baby girl—or boy—was quietly resting. The jagged section of my hair near my temple no longer felt like a mark of humiliation. It felt like a battle scar from a war we had won together.

"Let’s go inside," I said, slipping my hand into Daniel’s arm, feeling the solid, unbreakable strength of the family we were about to build. "We have a yellow room to paint."
