Chapter 10 - The Sun Lives in This Room

The afternoon sun shifted, filling the yellow nursery with a warm, golden radiance that made every corner of the room glow like pure gold.

Ben came bursting into the room, holding a handmade drawing of a ship sailing under a giant, smiling sun. "Look, Hannah! Uncle Daniel said I can navigate the ferry boat next weekend!"

"Only under Marcus's supervision, young man," Daniel laughed, catching the excited boy and hoisting him onto his shoulder.

Caleb walked in next, holding a bottle of champagne and four glasses, followed by old Martin Hale, who looked younger than he had in decades, his face lit up with a proud, grandfatherly joy.

"A toast," Caleb announced, raising his glass as we all gathered around Aurora’s crib. "To the family that refused to break. To the memory of Aaron, who guided us home. And to the beautiful future we are writing together."

"To family," we all whispered in unison, clinking our glasses together as baby Aurora let out a soft, contented coo in her sleep, her tiny fist reaching up toward the sunlight.

I looked around the room—at my brother who was safe, at the boy who had found a real home, at the old man who had protected me, and at Daniel, the man who had turned his strength into a sanctuary for us all.

Six months ago, a cruel woman had cut my hair to remind me of 'my place.' But today, I knew exactly where I belonged. I belonged in the light. I belonged in the warmth. I belonged to a family that would move mountains to protect the love inside these walls.

The moment the scissors closed beside my face, I didn't lose my dignity—I found my true destiny. And as Daniel pulled me close for a deep, lingering kiss under the golden light, I knew that the sun would live in this room forever.
