Chapter 8 - The Trial of High Society

Three months later, the federal courthouse in downtown Boston was surrounded by hundreds of media vans, journalists, and photographers. The trial of Isabella Rossi and Victor Rossi had become the largest high-society legal battle of the decade. The public was transfixed by the fall of one of the city's oldest dynasties.

Inside the crowded courtroom, Marcus and Khloe sat in the front row of the gallery, surrounded by a wall of private security. Khloe was now nine months pregnant, her belly round and beautiful beneath a simple, elegant dark blue maternity dress. Her skin had regained its healthy color, her emerald-green eyes shining with a calm, triumphant light.

At the defense table sat Isabella Rossi. The three months in the detention center had completely stripped away her aristocratic glamour. She wore a plain, orange institutional jumpsuit, her dark hair pulled back into a messy ponytail, her face thin and lined with a bitter, unyielding resentment. Beside her sat her father, looking equally broken, his head bowed as the federal prosecutor presented the final pieces of evidence.

The central piece of evidence was played once more on the massive screens of the courtroom.

The security footage from St. Jude’s Medical Center.

The entire gallery held its breath as the video showed Isabella’s brutal kick into Khloe's side. Several members of the jury looked away in disgust, their faces hardening into masks of absolute condemnation. Isabella stared at the table, her hands clenching into fists as she realized that no amount of money, no clever legal maneuvering, and no family legacy could save her from the absolute reality of that digital record.

The jury deliberated for less than two hours.

"On the charge of conspiracy to commit murder, we find the defendant, Isabella Rossi, guilty," the foreman announced, his voice echoing clearly through the silent room. "On the charge of aggravated assault of a pregnant woman, we find the defendant, Isabella Rossi, guilty."

The verdicts continued for another twenty minutes, a systematic hammer striking down every single defense the Rossi family had attempted to construct. When the judge finally handed down the sentences—twenty-five years for Isabella without the possibility of parole, and thirty years for Victor for corporate racketeering and domestic terrorism—a collective sigh of relief filled the gallery.

Isabella was led away in handcuffs, her eyes locking onto Khloe's for one final, desperate second. But Khloe didn't look back with hatred or triumph. She simply looked at her with a quiet, profound pity before turning her face toward her husband.

Marcus wrapped his large arm around Khloe’s shoulders, pulling her close against his side as the courtroom broke into a flurry of movement.

"It’s finally over, sweetheart," Marcus whispered into her hair.

"No, Marcus," Khloe said softly, a beautiful, radiant smile illuminating her face as she suddenly gripped his arm with surprising strength. "It’s not over. It’s just beginning. We need to go to the hospital. Right now."
