Chapter 3 - Zero Hour in the OR

The flashing red light above Operating Room 3 cast a sinister glow down the sterile, white corridor of the hospital’s restricted wing. Marcus sat on a cold plastic chair, his head buried in his hands. His pristine white tuxedo shirt was now stained with his wife's blood, a permanent, physical manifestation of his failure to protect his family.
Downstairs, the charity gala had descended into absolute chaos. Rumors of an assassination attempt, a high-society brawl, and a billionaire family collapse were already leaking to the press. Marcus’s phone was vibrating continuously in his pocket—calls from board members, public relations executives, and legal advisors—but he ignored them all. The entire wealth of the Thorne empire meant absolutely nothing if the two hearts inside that operating room stopped beating.
The doors swung open, and Thomas Vance walked out, his expression exhausted but fiercely determined. He sat down next to Marcus, placing a heavy hand on the younger man's shoulder.
"The doctors are managing the internal bleeding," Thomas reported quietly. "The impact caused a partial placental separation. They’ve managed to stabilize Khloe’s blood pressure for now, but the baby’s heart rate is fluctuating dangerously. They are trying to avoid a premature delivery if they can hold off for another twenty-four hours to give the baby's lungs time to develop with steroid shots."
Marcus let out a ragged, shaking breath. "This is my fault, Thomas. I let Isabella get close to the inner circle. Her father’s shipping conglomerate was critical for our European expansion, and I... I thought her constant presence was just aggressive corporate networking. I didn't see the madness."
"Isabella Rossi didn't act alone, Marcus," Thomas said, his eyes darkening as he leaned in closer. "While you were waiting here, my security team did a deep digital sweep of Isabella’s personal phone, which we confiscated under hospital emergency security protocols before she could lock it."
Thomas handed Marcus a printed log of encrypted text messages.
Marcus's eyes scanned the pages, his jaw tightening until the bone looked ready to snap. The messages weren't just between Isabella and her father, Victor Rossi. There was a third party involved—someone inside Thorne Enterprises. Someone who had been providing Isabella with Khloe's private medical schedules, her room assignments, and even the security bypass codes for the VIP elevator tonight.
The contact name in the encrypted chat was listed only as The Architect.
"They wanted her to miscarry, Marcus," Thomas said, his voice thick with anger. "The messages show they planned to use the medical emergency to declare Khloe mentally and physically incapacitated, forcing a divorce clause in your prenuptial agreement that would allow the Rossi family to legally merge their assets with your European shipping shares."
"They wanted to murder my child for a market share," Marcus said, his voice turning into an absolute void of emotion. The fear that had paralyzed him for the last hour was suddenly replaced by a cold, industrial desire for total retribution.

He stood up, pulling his phone from his pocket, and dialed a number he rarely used. It was the direct line to his private security director, a former black-ops commander named Vance—no relation to Thomas, but just as lethal.
"Vance," Marcus said into the receiver. "Initiate Lockout Protocol Delta on all Thorne Enterprises servers. Block all access keys for executive board members. And find out exactly who has been communicating with the Rossi family over the last six months. I don't care how much it costs, or whose reputation it ruins. Bring me the Architect."
