Chapter 6 - A Promised Forever

Four months later.

Spring had arrived in Chicago. The ice along Lake Michigan had melted into clear blue water, and the gardens of the Willow House estate were blooming with vibrant tulips and white roses.

In the sunlit glass conservatory overlooking the lake, a small, intimate gathering was taking place. There were no reporters, no corporate board members, and no crystal chandeliers. Just a simple wooden arch covered in fresh flowers, set against the backdrop of the shining blue lake.

My mother sat in the front row, wearing a lovely lilac dress, wiping tears of joy from her eyes. Beside her was my best friend Sarah, holding my sister Sophia's hand.

Stand near the arch was five-year-old Lily, looking like a tiny angel in a white lace dress, holding a basket of pink rose petals.

And standing at the altar was Giovanni.

He wore a dark blue suit, looking handsomer than the day I had first met him. But the cold, distant aura he had once carried was completely gone. His amber eyes were soft, bright, and fixed entirely on me as I walked down the aisle.

I wore a simple, elegant lace wedding gown that trailed softly behind me. In my hands, I held a bouquet of white peonies—my father's favorite flowers.

When I reached the altar, Giovanni took my hands in his. His fingers were warm, steady, and familiar—the same hands that had rescued me from Table Twelve eight months ago.

The officiant smiled warmly at us. "We are gathered here today to unite Giovanni Fierro and Jessica Hale in holy matrimony. A true union built not on contracts or pretense, but on love, trust, and devotion."

Giovanni stepped closer, looking down into my eyes. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a simple, beautiful platinum wedding band—not an outrageous diamond meant to impress socialites, but a ring carved with tiny ivy leaves, symbolizing eternal devotion.

"Jessica," Giovanni said, his voice deep and thick with emotion. "Eight months ago, I walked up to your chair at a wedding because I needed an ally. I thought I was offering you a contract to save you. But the truth is... you saved me."

A tear slipped down my cheek as I listened to his words.

"You brought warmth, honesty, and love into a life that was cold and empty," Giovanni continued, his eyes shining with pure devotion. "You taught me what it truly means to protect a family. I don't want six months, Jessica. I want six decades. I want every morning, every storm, and every quiet night with you and Lily."

He slipped the platinum band onto my finger, right beside the emerald-cut diamond ring.

I reached up, taking his hand, my voice steady and filled with absolute certainty. "Giovanni, when you took my hand that night, I was broken, tired, and invisible. You showed me that I was worthy of being loved, protected, and cherished. You gave my daughter a father, and you gave me a home. I love you, Giovanni. Forever."

"By the power vested in me," the officiant declared with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Giovanni didn't hesitate. He pulled me into his arms, dipping me gently just like he had on our very first dance, and pressed his lips against mine in a deep, passionate, breathtaking kiss.

The small crowd erupted into warm applause. Lily squealed with delight, tossing her rose petals into the air and running over to wrap her tiny arms around both of our legs.

Giovanni lifted Lily into his arms, holding her close against his chest while keeping his other arm wrapped securely around my waist.

"We did it, Daddy Gio!" Lily giggled, touching his cheek.

"We did, little princess," Giovanni smiled, kissing her forehead before looking down at me, his heart shining in his eyes. "We're family now. Real family."

I looked out over the sparkling blue waters of Lake Michigan, feeling the gentle spring breeze against my skin. The woman who had once sat alone by the kitchen doors, broken and hopeless, was gone forever. Standing in her place was a woman who was fiercely loved, surrounded by a family that no storm could ever tear apart.

And as Giovanni kissed my forehead, holding us tight under the warm afternoon sun, I knew that our promised forever had finally begun.
