Chapter 8: The Crimson Sparrow

When Alexander had given Clara the silver sparrow bracelet, he hadn't just given her a piece of jewelry. Hidden inside the delicate silver emblem was a military-grade micro-GPS tracker, a security measure he had installed after Harrison’s initial threats a year ago. He had prayed he would never have to use it.

Five minutes later, Alexander’s security chief sent a live map to his phone. A flashing red dot was moving rapidly toward an abandoned industrial shipyard on the northern edge of the city’s river.

Alexander didn't wait for his security team. He climbed into his armored SUV, slammed his foot onto the accelerator, and tore through the rainy city streets, weaving through traffic like a man possessed. The rain lashed against his windshield, mirroring the storm of fury in his soul. If a single hair on Clara’s head was harmed, the world would not be big enough for Victoria to hide from him.

He arrived at the abandoned shipyard thirty minutes later. The area was desolate, surrounded by rusted shipping containers and overgrown weeds. The flashing red dot on his phone showed that Clara was inside a decaying brick warehouse at the edge of the pier.

Alexander stepped out of his vehicle, his coat soaking through instantly. He didn't carry a weapon; he didn't need one. His bare hands were enough.

He kicked open the heavy wooden side door of the warehouse, the loud crash echoing through the cavernous, shadowy space. Inside, the air was thick with the smell of rust and stagnant water.

In the center of the warehouse, under a single flickering halogen light, stood Victoria Vance. Beside her were two hired thugs in heavy jackets. And tied to a wooden chair, her mouth covered with heavy tape, was Clara. Her eyes were red from crying, but when she saw Alexander step through the darkness, a flare of hope lit up her face.

"Alexander," Victoria said, stepping back slightly, shocked by how quickly he had found them. "You're faster than I thought. But you're too late. The yacht is arriving at the pier in ten minutes. We’re leaving the country. By the time the courts figure out where we are, Clara will be in a non-extradition territory, and I will be legally spending her trust fund."

"Let her go, Victoria," Alexander said, his voice dangerously quiet as he walked slowly toward them, his boots thudding rhythmically against the concrete.

"Stay back!" Victoria screamed, signaling her two thugs. "Break his legs. Don't let him get near the girl!"

The two large men rushed forward, one pulling a metal crowbar from his belt. But they underestimated the sheer, adrenaline-fueled strength of a father defending his child.

The first thug swung the crowbar. Alexander stepped inside the arc, parrying the blow with his forearm, and delivered a devastating right hook straight to the man’s jaw. The thug collapsed instantly, unconscious before he hit the ground.

The second man tried to tackle Alexander from behind, but Alexander turned, grabbed the man by his collar, and slammed him face-first into a stack of heavy wooden pallets. The structure collapsed, burying the second thug in a heap of splintered wood.

Within sixty seconds, the two guards were completely neutralized.

Alexander turned his gaze to Victoria. She looked terrified now, her manicured facade completely shattering as she backed away toward the edge of the pier doors.

"You're a monster!" she shrieked, her voice cracking. "You can't do this! I am her mother!"

"You are nothing to her," Alexander said, walking past her without even granting her a blow. He rushed to the chair, gently peeling the tape from Clara’s mouth and untying the ropes binding her small wrists.

"Daddy!" Clara sobbed, throwing her arms around his neck, burying her face in his wet sweater. "I knew you would come! I knew it!"

"I've got you, princess," Alexander whispered, lifting her into his arms.

Suddenly, a loud siren echoed outside. Five police cruisers, followed by three black Reeves security SUVs, tore into the shipyard, their searchlights illuminating the dark warehouse. Jonathan Vance and Miss Ellen rushed inside, followed by a dozen armed officers.

Victoria tried to run out the back exit, but she was instantly cut off by two officers who shoved her against a shipping container, clicking handcuffs onto her wrists.

"Alexander Reeves, you'll pay for this!" Victoria screamed as she was dragged away, her makeup smeared by the rain. "I'll sue you! I'll take everything!"

Alexander didn't even look back at her. He walked out into the pouring rain, holding his daughter close to his chest, shielded by his security team. The nightmare was over. The snake had finally been defanged.
