Chapter 3: The True Reckoning

Alexander stood up, his face transforming from profound grief into a mask of pure, lethal authority. He tightly gripped Clara’s hand, turning around to face the crowded gymnasium.
The principal of the school, a pompous man named Mr. Henderson who had spent the entire evening ignoring Clara, came rushing forward with a fake, sweating smile. "Mr. Reeves! What an absolute honor to have you on our dance floor! I see you've met our... little charity case, Clara. We try our best with her, but—"
"Silence," Alexander commanded. The word echoed like a thunderclap across the gym. The principal choked on his own breath, stepping back in absolute terror.
Alexander looked at his head of security, Marcus, who had just entered the gym after noticing his boss step onto the floor. "Marcus. Bring the car around. We are leaving. And call the director of the St. Jude’s Orphanage. Tell her Clara Anderson is coming home with me tonight. If a single piece of paperwork is delayed, I will buy the entire state legal department by midnight and fire everyone involved."
"Right away, Mr. Reeves," Marcus replied, already speaking into his earpiece.
Suddenly, a sharp, arrogant voice cut through the stunned silence from the back of the gym. "Alexander! What do you think you're doing? You can't just adopt a random orphan at a school dance. Think of the company's stock price! Think of the board!"
It was Harrison Reeves—Alexander’s uncle and the chief financial officer of Reeves International. He had followed Alexander to the event to discuss an upcoming merger, and he was now staring at Clara with a look of pure venom. He recognized the sparrow bracelet on her wrist instantly. He knew his multi-million-dollar fraud was about to be exposed.
Alexander walked directly up to his uncle, pulling Clara protectively behind his back. "The board is no longer your concern, Harrison," Alexander said, his voice dropping to a dangerous, icy whisper.
"What are you talking about?" Harrison scoffed, trying to maintain his composure in front of the watching parents. "I built this company with you!"
"No. You built a throne of lies on top of Julian Anderson’s grave," Alexander roared, reaching into his jacket and pulling out his phone. He tapped the screen, playing an audio file that his private security team had intercepted just an hour prior—a recording of Harrison discussing how they had successfully hidden Julian’s daughter in the orphanage system to avoid paying out her rightful fifty-percent stake in the company.
The audio filled the quiet gym. Harrison’s face turned an asymmetric shade of pale.
"You embezzled her inheritance, Harrison," Alexander said, his eyes burning with an intense fury. "The federal authorities are already waiting at your penthouse. You are stripped of your title, your shares, and your freedom. You thought you left this child with nothing, but as of today, she owns half of everything you think is yours."

Two plainclothes officers stepped out from the back of the gym, slamming handcuffs onto Harrison’s wrists and dragging him out through the double doors while the entire school community watched in breathless shock.
Alexander turned back to Clara, kneeling down once more to match her height. He gently wiped a stray tear from her cheek. "Your daddy was a hero, Clara. And from now on, you will never, ever have to dance alone again."
