Chapter 6 - A Garden in Bloom

A year later, Evergreen Manor opened its gates to the public for the annual Seattle Botanical Tour—just as it had done when Eleanor was alive.

The garden was no longer a graveyard of memories; it had become a breathtaking masterpiece of life and color. Roses bloomed in brilliant shades of crimson and pink, hydrangeas lined the pristine stone paths, and two large marble fountains bubbled merrily in the afternoon sun.

Hundreds of monarch and swallowtail butterflies fluttered through the air, drawn to the rows of fresh butterfly bushes that stretched across the lawn.

Robert stood on the back patio, wearing a tailored suit, a warm smile on his face. Beside him stood Caroline, who had rejoined his team to help him launch a new charitable foundation dedicated to protecting vulnerable children and supporting investigative efforts for missing family members.

Down in the center of the garden, ten-year-old Charlotte was leading a group of visitors, pointing out different flower species with enthusiastic gestures and a bright, infectious laugh. She wore a bright yellow summer dress, and on her right wrist, the silver butterfly bracelet caught the light, gleaming in the sunshine.

Robert walked down the steps and joined her, wrapping a warm arm around her shoulders as the visitors moved on to the next path.

"Look at this place, Charlotte," Robert murmured, looking around at the paradise they had built together from the ashes of their tragedy. "You were right, you know. That night you came to the door."

Charlotte looked up at him, her blue eyes shining with complete happiness. "What was I right about?"

"Nothing is beyond saving," Robert said, kissing the top of her head. "If you care enough."

Hand in hand, father and daughter walked through their blooming garden, leaving the darkness of the past behind them, bathed in the warmth of a new beginning.
