Chapter 3 - Confrontation in the Dark

"What's going on here?" Harrison’s voice was sharp as he assessed the situation. Recognizing Robert instantly, his eyes narrowed, and his hand instinctively moved toward his jacket pocket.

"He knows, Richard!" Margaret cried out. "He knows everything!"

Harrison’s expression hardened into something cold and desperate. "You fool, Margaret."

Robert turned to face the man who had stolen five years of his daughter's life. "You ruined my family for fifty thousand dollars."

"It was business, Blackwood," Harrison said coldly, drawing a small handgun from his coat. "You tech executives think you own the world, while men like me work eighty hours a week for scraps. That baby was worth more to me alive than dead."

Robert stood his ground, unclenching his fists. "Put the gun down, Harrison. The police already have your bank records. My security team knows I'm here."

"Then I don't have much to lose, do I?" Harrison sneered, raising the barrel toward Robert's chest. "If I go down, you don't get your fairytale ending."

A loud siren echoed in the distance, growing louder by the second. Caroline had alerted the authorities the moment Robert confirmed Margaret's identity.

Panic flickered across Harrison’s face. He stepped backward toward the open door, firing a single wild shot into the ceiling to keep Robert back before sprinting out into the rainy twilight.

Robert didn't care about Harrison escaping; the police would hunt him down. He turned back to Margaret, who was cowering on the floor.

"You are going to tell the police everything," Robert said, his voice cold as steel. "And then you are never going to look at my daughter again."
