Chapter 8 - The Legal ReckoningWhile the backyard bloomed with tomato plants and marigolds, the financial and legal reckoning of the old regime was playing out quietly behind closed doors in Manhattan.

Arthur—who had transitioned from corporate counsel for Vertex Global to Alejandro’s personal estate attorney—arrived at the Greenwich mansion on a crisp Friday afternoon with a thick leather briefcase.
Alejandro met him in the sunroom while the boys were napping upstairs.
“The forensic audit of the family trust is complete, Alejandro,” Arthur said, sliding a comprehensive financial report across the glass table. He adjusted his glasses and looked up with a solemn expression. “The numbers are worse than we initially thought. Over the last four years, your mother and Patricia systematically drained nearly four million dollars from the children’s educational and developmental trusts, funneling the capital into unregistered offshore entities and personal luxury assets.”
Alejandro flipped through the pages. The columns of numbers, wire transfer receipts, and forged authorization signatures told a cold, calculating story of greed disguised as aristocratic tradition.
“Can we recover it?” Alejandro asked, his voice steady.
“Every single cent,” Arthur replied firmly. “We’ve already filed federal fraud charges and asset-freezing injunctions in the New York Supreme Court. Their bank accounts in Palm Beach have been locked, and their real estate holdings under corporate shells are being seized by the court pending trial. They won’t be able to buy their way out of this.”
Alejandro closed the binder and looked out toward the garden, where a sprinkler was gently misting the grass. He felt no anger—only a profound sense of relief that the rot had finally been cut out of their lives.

“Proceed with full legal action, Arthur,” Alejandro instructed quietly. “I want every dollar restored to a secure, independent trust exclusively controlled by my sons when they turn twenty-one. Not a single penny more for anyone else.”
“Consider it done,” Arthur said, standing up and packing his briefcase. He paused at the door, offering Alejandro a warm, approving smile. “You made the right choice stepping back, Alejandro. Your company is thriving under the new committee, and your boys... well, they finally have a real home.”
