Chapter 7 - THE WEDDING AT SUNSET

The wedding of Matteo Caruso and Elena Voss took place on a breathtaking autumn afternoon at the Caruso private estate in Long Island—the very place where the old mafia council had once sat.

The estate had been completely transformed. The heavy oak gates were decorated with thousands of white roses, soft jasmine, and golden fairy lights. The gloomy Tudor mansion had been renovated into a bright, airy family retreat with wide glass doors that opened onto rolling green lawns and vibrant gardens.

Two hundred guests were assembled on the lawn overlooking the ocean: city officials, prominent business leaders, former Capos who were now corporate executives, and Elena’s old friends from the music conservatory.

A string quartet played soft classical melodies as the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in dazzling shades of gold, violet, and crimson.

At the altar stood Matteo, looking remarkably handsome in a custom dark charcoal tuxedo. Beside him stood Marco, looking proud and emotional.

Then, the music shifted into a magnificent processional.

First came Sophie, walking down the white runner as the flower girl. She wore a beautiful white lace dress with a silk sash, carrying a basket of rose petals. In her little hand, she held her one-eyed bear, which was wearing a tiny black bow tie specially made for the occasion. The guests wept softly at the sight of the sweet, brave little girl who had reunited an empire.

And then came Elena.

She walked down the aisle on the arm of Old Man Dominick, who had insisted on walking her down the aisle as a gesture of deep respect from the older generation of the family.

Elena was breathtaking. She wore a custom ivory silk gown with delicate lace sleeves and a long, sweeping train. Her dark chestnut hair was styled in an intricate updo, framed by a delicate crystal veil. She looked like a queen stepping onto her throne.

Matteo’s breath caught in his throat. As she reached the altar, he took her hand, his fingers trembling slightly with overwhelming emotion.

“You are the most beautiful sight in this world,” Matteo whispered to her.

Elena smiled, her dark eyes shining with tears of pure happiness. “And you are my home, Matteo.”

The officiant, a respected federal judge who had helped Matteo clear Elena’s legal record, stepped forward.

“We are gathered here today,” the judge began, his voice echoing across the quiet lawn, “to join this man and this woman in holy matrimony. A bond tested by time, proven by adversity, and crowned by love.”

The vows were simple, sincere, and deeply emotional. When Matteo placed the sapphire and diamond band on Elena’s finger, he made a vow not just to love her, but to honor her strength, protect her peace, and cherish every second of the future they were building together.

“By the authority vested in me,” the judge declared with a bright smile, “I now pronounce you husband and wife. Matteo, you may kiss your bride.”

Matteo pulled Elena into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips to hers.

The entire lawn erupted into thunderous applause, cheers, and joyous celebration. Rose petals rained down over them as the sun set over the ocean, casting a golden light over their new beginning.
