Chapter 6 - A Promised Sunrise

One year later.

The morning sun rose golden and warm over the private coast of Sullivan’s Island. The deep, rhythmic sound of ocean waves crashing against the soft white sand filled the quiet morning air.

On the terrace of our sprawling coastal estate, a large wooden table was set with fresh fruit, warm pastries, and morning tea.

Fifteen-month-old Milo—now a joyful, chubby toddler with dark curly hair and his father’s bright blue eyes—was giggling loudly, chasing a golden retriever puppy across the manicured green lawn.

"Slow down, little man!" Alexander laughed, sitting on the grass in a comfortable linen shirt, opening his arms as Milo tumbled happily into his chest. Alexander lifted him high into the air, making him squeal with delight before pulling him into a tight, loving embrace.

I walked out onto the terrace carrying a tray of fresh juice, leaning against the wooden railing, watching the two most important men in my life.

My family’s former empire was gone. Preston was currently serving a twelve-year sentence in a federal facility. Warren and Lorraine had moved to a modest rental home in rural Georgia, living quietly off a small, court-mandated pension, completely isolated from the high society that had once been their religion.

They had wanted a legacy built on prestige, vanity, and fear.

They ended up with nothing.

I walked down the stone steps onto the soft grass, sitting down beside Alexander. Milo immediately crawled onto my lap, resting his warm little head against my chest, his tiny fingers clutching the fabric of my dress.

Alexander wrapped his arm around both of us, pulling us close against his chest as the ocean breeze blew softly over the coast.

"What are you thinking about, sweetheart?" Alexander whispered, pressing a soft kiss against the side of my neck.

I looked down at my son, who was looking up at me with absolute trust, safety, and love in his eyes. Then I looked at Alexander—the man who had stood by me when the world tried to break me, who had given me a home when my own family shut their doors.

"I was thinking about the day Milo was born," I said softly, a peaceful smile touching my lips. "They thought I was alone in that hospital room. They thought my son had no place in the world."

Alexander pulled me closer, his hand resting over mine atop our son’s back.

"They didn't see the sunrise, Sienna," Alexander said gently, looking into my eyes with deep, eternal devotion. "They only saw the storm. But you... you built our horizon."

Milo let out a sweet, happy laugh, pointing a tiny finger at the bright golden sun climbing over the calm ocean waters. The dark nightmare of the past was gone forever. Here, in the warmth of true love and unshakeable family, our new life had finally begun.
