Chapter 6 - A New Beginning

Three Years Later
The morning sun rose over the calm, sparkling waters of the Pacific Northwest, casting a warm golden glow over a beautiful, two-story wooden house nestled against the coastline of an isolated coastal town in Oregon.
The air smelled of pine trees, salt water, and fresh coffee.
In the backyard, sixteen-year-old Lily Monroe—now healthy, tall, and radiant—was laughing as she threw a frisbee for a golden retriever rushing across the green grass. The dark hair that had once been matted with blood in a Chicago ER was now tied up in a neat, stylish ponytail. The tiny crescent scar on her cheek remained, a beautiful symbol of survival.
From the wide back porch, Claire Monroe watched her daughter with a peaceful smile. She wore a comfortable linen dress, holding a warm mug between her hands.
The screen door slid open, and a man walked out to join her.
He was no longer wearing tailored black suits or shoulder holsters. Instead, he wore a simple charcoal sweater and jeans. His dark stubble had given way to a clean-shaven face, and the harsh, freezing glare in his eyes had been completely replaced by a profound, deep-seated peace.
Dominic wrapped his arms around Claire from behind, pulling her against his chest. He rested his chin on her shoulder, watching their daughter run along the grass.
"She’s getting fast," Dominic murmured, a genuine smile gracing his lips.
"She gets that from you," Claire replied, turning her head to kiss his jawline, right over the faint, faded scar from a life that seemed a million miles away. "She aced her biology exam yesterday, by the way. She wants to study pre-med."
Dominic chuckled, a warm, rich sound. "A doctor. I like that. Much better than the family business."
After the night at Navy Pier, Dominic had legally enacted a flawless exit strategy. With Aaron's help, Dominic Vale had officially been declared dead in a catastrophic explosion at the docks—a story the FBI gladly accepted to close their books. The vast fortunes had been quietly diverted through untraceable international trusts, leaving his family with more than enough to live a quiet, luxurious life under new identities.
Julian Price had fully recovered and moved to Europe, finally free of the underworld. Aaron Mercer had retired to a quiet ranch in Montana, still keeping a watchful, distant eye out for his old friend.
But for Dominic, the greatest victory wasn't the survival or the money. It was the family he had been told he could never have.
"Dad! Look!" Lily called out, running up to the porch, holding the frisbee proudly while the dog wagged its tail beside her. "I beat my personal record! You owe me that driving lesson this afternoon!"
Dominic stepped down from the porch, walking out onto the grass. He reached out, playfully ruffling her dark hair before pulling her into a tight, warm hug.

"A promise is a promise, little bird," Dominic said, his voice filled with an overwhelming, emotional warmth. He looked back at Claire, who was smiling at them from the porch under the bright blue sky.
The blood that had saved Lily's life on that cold morning in Chicago hadn't just saved a dying girl—it had saved a dying man's soul, giving him a future, a family, and a beautiful, peaceful happy ending.
