Chapter 6 - THE GARDEN OF ROMANO

One year later.
The summer sun shone brightly over the Long Island Sound, painting the blue waters in sparkling light. The heavy security gates of the Romano Estate were wide open, adorned with long garlands of blooming white roses, lavender, and sweet jasmine.
The estate’s grand lawn had been transformed into an outdoor wonderland.
Hundreds of guests—reformed harbor union leaders, local community figures, and estate staff— sat in white wooden chairs arranged around a sweeping central aisle covered in pink rose petals.
At the head of the aisle, standing under a magnificent wrought-iron trellis covered in blooming winter oaks and honeysuckle, was Alessandro Romano.
He wore an immaculate white tuxedo jacket with dark trousers, his dark hair neatly styled, his grey eyes shining with a radiant, undisputed happiness that made him look ten years younger. Beside him stood Marco, wearing a sharp black suit and acting as best man.
The soft melody of a grand piano began to play across the sunlit lawn.
Nine-year-old Ethan walked down the aisle first.
He wore a matching white tuxedo, walking entirely on his own two feet—without a cane, without braces, his steps confident and strong as he carried a small velvet cushion holding two platinum rings.
The entire crowd stood up, applauding softly as the young heir took his place beside his father.
"You ready, Dad?" Ethan whispered up to his father with a mischievous grin.
Alessandro looked down at his son, his heart swelling with a joy so profound it brought tears to his eyes. "I’ve been ready for a year, son."
Then, the French doors of the mansion opened.
Lily Brooks walked out onto the green lawn.
She looked like a goddess of nature and love. Her custom-designed bridal gown was made of rich, flowing ivory silk that celebrated every gorgeous, full curve of her plush figure. The off-the-shoulder neckline highlighted her soft collarbones, while an intricate lace train embroidered with green vine patterns trailed ten feet behind her. Her golden hair fell in loose, luxurious curls over her shoulders, adorned with a simple crown of fresh chamomile flowers.
She held a bouquet of white roses, peppermint, and rosemary—the very same herbs she had placed in a wooden basin of warm water eighteen months ago.
As her hazel eyes met Alessandro’s, the formidable king of New York felt his knees buckle slightly.
Lily walked down the aisle with grace, pride, and an undeniable majesty. She wasn't an outsider entering a terrifying mafia world anymore. She was the heart, the soul, and the absolute queen of the house.
Alessandro stepped down from the altar, reaching out his large, warm hands to take hers as she reached him.
"You look breathtaking, my love," Alessandro whispered, his voice trembling with emotion.
"You don't look so bad yourself, Don Alessandro," Lily teased softly, her hazel eyes sparkling with happiness.
The minister stepped forward, opening his leather-bound book as the summer breeze rustled the rose petals around them.
"We are gathered here today," the minister began, "to unite Alessandro Romano and Lily Brooks in holy matrimony. A union born not of politics or power, but of healing, courage, and unconditional love."
When the time came for the vows, Alessandro took both of Lily’s hands, looking directly into her eyes without looking at his written paper.
"Lily," Alessandro said, his deep voice carrying clearly across the quiet lawn. "When you came into my life, my home was a tomb. My heart was made of stone, and my son was trapped in silence. You didn't fear my weapons, my name, or my dark past. You brought warm water to cold feet. You reminded us that even under four feet of ice, the oak tree remembers how to bloom."
He slipped a thick, flawless diamond ring onto her soft finger.
"I vow to love you, honor you, and shield you with my life for every day I breathe," Alessandro swore.
Lily smiled, tears of pure happiness running down her glowing cheeks as she held his large hand.
"Alessandro," Lily whispered softly. "You showed me that true strength isn't about controlling people—it's about protecting them. You gave me a family, a home, and a love deeper than the sea. My heart is yours, today and forever."
She slipped a simple platinum band onto his finger.
"By the authority vested in me," the minister announced with a wide smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! You may kiss the bride!"
Alessandro didn't hesitate. He wrapped his massive arms around her broad, silk-clad waist, pulling her flush against his chest, and kissed her deeply, dipping her slightly as the entire crowd erupted into thunderous, joyous applause.
Ethan ran forward, throwing his arms around both of their waists, laughing happily as his parents held him tight between them under the warm summer sun.

The violence, the dark whispers, and the fear were gone forever.
And as the warm ocean breeze carried the scent of roses across the harbor, the mafia king, his queen, and their boy walked hand in hand into their new life—safe, unbroken, and blooming together forever.
