Spring returned to the city with a brilliant display of blossoming cherry trees and warm, golden sunshine.
The grand gates of Faulkner Manor stood wide open, welcoming laughter, music, and life. On the veranda overlooking the ocean, Owen sat in a comfortable teakwood chair, breathing in the fresh sea breeze without a single hint of pain in his chest.
Hannah, now wearing a bright yellow dress with matching ribbons in her neatly brushed hair, ran up the steps holding a newly framed painting.
“Look, Daddy! I painted our house!” she exclaimed proudly, thrusting the canvas toward him.
Owen took the painting, admiring the vibrant strokes of green grass, blue ocean, and two stick figures standing side by side under a massive, glowing red heart.
He pulled her onto his lap, kissing the top of her head as the warm afternoon sun enveloped them both in a golden glow.
