Chapter 6 - The Sovereign's Vow

Two Years Later
The spring breeze swept gently across the manicured lawns of a magnificent stone estate overlooking Lake Michigan. The sky was a brilliant, cloudless blue, and the sound of a string quartet filled the air.
The courtyard was filled with hundreds of guests—city officials, international dignitaries, and reformed associates of the Vance Organization, all standing in respectful silence.
At the front of the altar stood Roman Vance. He looked breath-takingly handsome in a tailored midnight-black tuxedo, his silver cane replaced by a proud, unbroken posture. The steel-gray eyes that had once brought terror to the streets of Chicago were now shimmering with a profound, emotional warmth.
The music shifted to a grand, swelling melody.
The heavy oak doors of the estate opened, and Clara Bennett walked down the aisle.
She was stunning. Her auburn hair was styled in an elegant, intricate updo, adorned with a veil of delicate white lace. Her silk gown flowed behind her like water, and she held a bouquet of white lilies and orchids. Walking beside her, holding her arm with a proud, happy smile, was her mother, whose health had stabilized completely under the luxurious care Roman had provided.
As Clara reached the altar, Roman stepped down, gently taking her hand from her mother. He leaned down, his lips brushing her knuckles with a deep, reverent tenderness.
"You look beautiful, my queen," he murmured.
Clara smiled up at him, her eyes bright with happiness. "You don't look too bad yourself, Mr. Vance."
The ceremony was brief but profound, a vow of eternal protection, love, and partnership. When the minister finally pronounced them husband and wife, Roman wrapped his strong arms around Clara’s waist, pulling her flush against his chest, and kissed her with a fierce, passionate devotion that drew a thunderous ovation from the crowd.
Later that evening, as the grand reception carried on inside the ballroom, Roman led Clara out onto the wide stone balcony overlooking the moonlit lake. The city lights of Chicago twinkled in the far distance, a vast empire that they now ruled together—not through fear, but through foundation, charity, and strength.
Roman stepped up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her back against his warmth. He rested his chin on her shoulder, his hands intertwining with hers, where a massive, flawless diamond ring caught the moonlight.
"Two years ago, a beautiful, brave nurse saved a dying man on Bed Four," Roman whispered, his deep voice vibrating against her spine. "He thought his life was nothing but cold ledgers and bloody wars."
Clara turned around in his embrace, placing her hands flat against his chest, feeling the steady, powerful rhythm of his heart.
"And what does that man think now?" she asked softly.

Roman smiled, a soft, incredibly tender expression that belonged only to her. He leaned down, resting his forehead against hers.
"He thinks he is the luckiest man alive," Roman murmured, kissing her gently under the stars. "Because he found the one woman in this world who could never, ever be replaced."
