Chapter 4 - The Public Reckoning

The backlash against Vivian was swift and devastating.

When the full, unedited security footage was released to the media, millions watched as Vivian sneered at a mother and child, barking at them to use the service entrance. The public was outraged—not at Evelyn, but at Vivian's shocking cruelty and entitlement.

Within hours, the internet rallied behind Evelyn and little Mia. Sponsors pulled out of Vivian’s high-society charities. Country clubs revoked her membership, and her high-society 'friends' deleted her contact information.

To make matters worse for the couple, federal investigators arrived at the Blackwell residence with a search warrant at dusk, seizing asset records, luxury vehicles, and frozen account statements.

Desperate to avoid prison time and completely broke, Robert made one final attempt to save himself. He scheduled an urgent meeting at Evelyn’s personal office, bringing a terrified Vivian with him.

When they entered, Evelyn sat behind her desk, looking composed and poised.

"Evelyn... please," Robert sobbed, looking fifteen years older than he had twenty-four hours ago. "I'll surrender my remaining shares. I'll sign a full confession. Just drop the civil lawsuit so we don't lose our home."

Vivian stood behind him, her eyes red, her posture completely shattered.

"I'm... I'm sorry," Vivian whispered, unable to look Evelyn in the eye. "I was wrong about you. I was wrong about your daughter."
