CHAPTER 6 – THE HIDDEN FLOOR

CHAPTER 6 – THE HIDDEN FLOOR
The blast shook the building again.
This time the security monitor went black.
One word appeared across every screen.
ACCESS GRANTED
A low mechanical rumble echoed beneath the marble floor.
Damon spun toward the elevator bank.
"No..."
"They've opened it."
A section of the lobby floor suddenly shifted.
Ancient hydraulic locks groaned.
Dust burst upward.
Hidden beneath polished marble...
A circular platform slowly rose from underground.
It looked like an elevator that had slept for decades.
No buttons.
No markings.
Only one small metal panel.
At its center—
A faded yellow sun.
Exactly like Eli's toy.
Everyone stared.
Eli quietly stood.
Without hesitation, he walked toward the platform.
"Stop!" Vivian cried.
I reached him first.
He looked at me, calm for the first time since the nightmare began.
Then he gently placed his toy sun into the matching indentation.
CLICK.
The entire platform vibrated.
Lights hidden for twenty years suddenly came alive.
Deep below...
Generators awakened.
The floor split apart.
A staircase descended into darkness.
Cold air rushed upward.
It smelled of old concrete and forgotten secrets.
Damon whispered,
"This is where it all started."
Before anyone could move—
Gunfire erupted.
The attackers who had escaped the lobby stormed back inside through a shattered side entrance.
"There!"
"Take the boy!"
Bullets ripped through the reception desk.
Marble exploded around us.
I threw Eli behind the rising platform.
Damon fired back with a pistol taken from one of his own wounded men.
Vivian crawled beside her son.
Employees scattered in every direction.
The lobby became a battlefield.
Then...
Something impossible happened.
Eli closed his eyes.
His breathing slowed.
His fingers rested on the glowing yellow sun symbol.
Every light inside the hidden staircase brightened.
Computers deep underground came alive.
A calm female voice echoed from beneath the tower.
Identity confirmed.
Welcome home... Subject Nine.
Everyone froze.
Even the gunmen.
Another message followed.
Searching for Subject Seven...
Across town...
Hundreds of surveillance cameras suddenly activated.
Traffic cameras.
Store cameras.
Street cameras.
Each one began scanning faces.
Looking for Danny Brennan.
At that exact moment, miles away, Danny finished repairing a customer's truck.
He wiped grease from his hands and smiled at his coworker.
He had no idea that an artificial intelligence buried beneath the city had just begun searching for him.
Or that within minutes...
Every armed group in Chicago would be racing toward the same destination.
Not to capture a billionaire.
May you like
Not for money.
But for two men who had once been frightened little boys... and the secret hidden inside their minds.
