Chapter 5 - The Confrontation

"You're very concerned about his care, Julian," Nathan said, his voice dangerously calm as he slowly closed his laptop.

"Of course I am," Julian stammered, adjusting his silk tie, his eyes darting nervously around the room. "He’s my nephew. Grace's boy. I want to make sure his final days are peaceful. This maid... Clara Bennett... Pierce says she's a liability."

"Clara Bennett gave my son a slice of cake, and he smiled," Nathan said, standing up to his full height, his commanding presence completely dominating the space. "Dr. Pierce gave my son an overdose of digitalis, and he nearly died. Tell me, Julian, how much did it cost to buy the chief of cardiology? Was it the four million from the Cayman account, or did you promise him a percentage of the trust once Owen was in the ground?"

Julian’s face completely drained of color. He backed away toward the door, his hands shaking. "Nathan, you're insane. Grief is making you paranoid. You're hallucinating—"

"I have the transfer logs, Julian," Nathan hissed, stepping out from behind the desk like a predator cornering its prey. "I have the shell corporation filings. And right now, I have a private security team currently securing every single medical file and blood sample from Owen's room."

"You can't prove anything!" Julian snarled, his mask of sibling affection completely shattering into a ugly, desperate sneer. "Owen's heart is failing! Even if the medication was heavy, no court will convict a doctor for aggressive treatment on a terminal patient! The trust expires in ten days, Nathan. Your boy is too weak to survive anyway. You've already lost!"

Julian turned and slammed the door, sprinting out of the mansion.

Nathan stood in the center of the room, his chest heaving. He didn't chase his brother. Instead, he lunged for his phone, dialing his chief of security. "Lock down the gates. Nobody enters this property. And get me Dr. Robert Chen from the Chicago Heart Institute on the line immediately. Tell him I don't care what it costs—he brings a mobile lab to my house tonight."
