Chapter 4 - The Boardroom Betrayal

The revelation hit Nathan like a physical blow.

Owen's twenty-sixth birthday was not just a milestone; it was the date specified in Grace’s family trust. If Owen passed away before turning twenty-six, the control of the multi-billion-dollar Whitmore Corporate Holdings would not go to Nathan—it would revert automatically to Nathan's younger brother, Julian, who had been heavily indebted to foreign investors for years.

Nathan sat in his dark study, his fingers flying across his laptop keyboard. He bypassed his standard corporate security, accessing the private financial ledgers of the Whitmore Foundation.

His jaw tightened as he found what he was looking for. Over the past six months, Julian had authorized three massive "research grants" from the foundation directly to an offshore account registered under a shell corporation in the Cayman Islands.

The registered agent for that shell corporation? Dr. Harold Pierce.

They were paying Owen's doctor to slowly, systematically ensure that the boy never recovered. They were turning a treatable cardiac condition into a terminal countdown, using Nathan's own grief-blinded absence to execute the perfect, invisible murder.

Suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the study burst open. Julian Whitmore walked in, wearing an expensive camel-hair coat, a smug, practiced smile on his face.

"Nathan, old sport," Julian said, tossing his leather gloves onto the desk. "I just ran into Dr. Pierce at the hospital. He told me you brought Owen home. He’s deeply concerned. He says you've hired some low-class maid who is actively disrupting Owen's palliative care. We need to get him back to the clinic immediately."

Nathan looked up from his computer, his dark eyes radiating an icy, lethal rage that made Julian's smile instantly falter.
