Chapter 4 - The Truth Unmasked

While Derek was frantically trying to save his crumbling career, Luca’s legal team was quietly digging into the past six months of Derek Morrison’s financial transactions.

A week after the phone call, Paige Vance—a top high-net-worth family attorney retained by Luca—arrived at the estate with a thick leather file.

"Emma," Paige said, sliding a set of bank statements across the wooden tea table. "We found something extraordinary."

I picked up the documents, reviewing the highlighted rows. "What is this?"

"During the last four months of your pregnancy," Paige explained, "while Derek was claiming he couldn't afford to help you pay for your private delivery care or your apartment lease, he diverted over $250,000 from your joint savings account—money you inherited from your late mother."

My heart dropped into my stomach. "He stole my mother’s inheritance?"

"He used it to buy a luxury penthouse condo in Brooklyn under Brittany Hale’s private trust," Paige revealed, her eyes burning with professional outrage. "He committed grand larceny, financial fraud, and breach of spousal fiduciary duty."

Luca sat across from us, pouring a cup of dark espresso. "And there is one more detail, Emma."

"What detail?" I asked, looking up.

Paige pulled out a secondary medical file stamped from an elite private clinic in Manhattan.

"Brittany Hale’s publicly announced pregnancy," Paige stated cleanly. "We cross-referenced her medical insurance claims filed through Derek’s corporate healthcare plan. Brittany isn't pregnant."

I blinked, completely stunned. "What?"

"She faked her pregnancy ultrasound three months ago using a purchased digital template to force Derek to leave you before Aria was born," Paige said with a cold smile. "She’s been wearing a silicone bump for twelve weeks."

I sat back in my chair, laughter bubbling up in my chest—not of sorrow, but of sheer, unbelievable irony. Derek had abandoned his real daughter and destroyed his life for a woman who was faking a baby to trap him.

"What do we do now?" I asked, looking directly at Luca.

Luca smiled—a sharp, victorious smile that lit up his dark features. "Now, Emma... we invite them to dinner."
