Chapter 7 - The Arrest at the Country Club

The timing couldn't have been more poetic.
Wednesday evening was the annual San Diego Real Estate Gala held at the prestigious Grand Del Mar Resort. Seth was hosting a table for fifteen potential investors, flanked by my father, my mother, and his wife Megan.
Seth was wearing a tuxedo, laughing and pouring champagne, showcasing his sleek presentation deck on a projection screen.
I sat in my car in the parking lot outside, accompanied by Officer Ramirez and two additional squad cars. Detective Miller had invited me to witness the execution of the warrant to ensure formal identification.
At 8:30 PM, four uniformed officers walked through the grand glass doors of the ballroom.
The ambient jazz music died down. Heads turned across the dining room as the officers marched straight toward Table 1.
Seth stopped mid-sentence, a smug smile still plastered across his face. "Officers? Can I help you with something? We are in the middle of a private presentation."
Detective Miller stepped forward, pulling a folded paper from his jacket.
"Seth Reynolds," Detective Miller announced, his voice echoing across the silent, crowded ballroom. "You are under arrest for felony child abuse, battery, and destruction of evidence under California Penal Code 273a."
My mother shrieked, dropping her wine glass onto the white tablecloth. "What is the meaning of this?! Do you know who my husband is?!"
Arthur leapt to his feet, his face turning bright red. "This is a outrageous mistake! My daughter is mentally ill! She is making up lies!"
"Sir, sit down!" Officer Ramirez commanded, pushing Arthur back into his chair.
Before the eyes of fifty of San Diego's most influential business executives, Officer Ramirez grabbed Seth’s arms, twisted them behind his back, and snapped cold, steel handcuffs around his wrists.
"Kallie did this!" Seth screamed frantically as he was dragged across the carpet, his tuxedo jacket rumpled. "You crazy bitch! I barely touched her! Dad, fix this! Fix this!"
My father stood frozen in the center of the ballroom, surrounded by staring investors, his ironclad reputation shattering into a million pieces before his very eyes.
As they led Seth out through the lobby, he saw me standing near the glass doors, holding my phone up, recording every single second of his humiliation.

"You ruined my life!" Seth spat at me, tears of rage springing to his eyes.
"No, Seth," I said softly, looking him dead in the eye. "You ruined your own life the second you laid a hand on my daughter."
