Chapter 8 - The True Celebration

A month passed, and Voss Logistics underwent a massive corporate rebirth under my direction. I eliminated the waste, restructured the employee bonus tiers, and turned the company into a thriving, ethical powerhouse.

To celebrate the company’s new direction and Dad’s official, untainted retirement, Vanguard Capital hosted a private banquet at the same luxury restaurant from that fateful night. But this time, the guest list was very different. I invited only the hard-working corporate managers, my father, and a few close, genuine friends.

Eric and Vanessa were notably absent, currently navigating a bitter, high-profile divorce in the local courts. Mom sat quietly at the end of the table, no longer arrogant, carefully watching her words and treating everyone with a newfound, terrified respect.

The waiter from that night stepped up to our table, carrying a massive, sizzling prime ribeye steak, placing it directly in front of Noah.

"For the young gentleman," the waiter smiled warmly, bowing slightly. "Compliments of the chef."

Noah’s face lit up with a brilliant, joyful smile. He looked up at me, his eyes shining. "Thank you, Mommy."

Dad stood up from the head of the table, raising his glass of wine. "I’d like to propose a toast," he said, his voice thick with emotion as he looked at me. "To the true leader of the Voss family name. A woman who taught us that success means nothing without integrity, and that family means protecting every single person at the table. To Claire."

"To Claire!" the entire room cheered, clinking their glasses together.

I smiled, holding Noah’s hand beneath the white tablecloth. Five years ago, I was a silent observer in my own life, allowing toxic people to dictate my worth. Today, I was the author of my own story, surrounded by a legacy of strength, love, and unconditional respect. The moment I stood up to expose that bill, I didn't just save my son's dignity—I unlocked the extraordinary future we were always meant to live.
