Chapter 5 - The Desperate Plead

By that evening, the story had completely leaked to the local business journals. The headlines were brutal: “Sibling Rivalry Destroys Voss Logistics Legacy.” “Logistics Empire Seized by Hidden Sister.”
I was sitting in my living room, watching Noah happily build a Lego castle on the rug, when the front doorbell rang. I checked the security camera. It was Dad and Mom. No Eric. No Vanessa. Just my parents, looking older and more fragile than I had ever seen them.
I opened the door and let them in. Mom immediately burst into tears, reaching out to grab my hands.
"Claire, please," she sobbed, her usual icy demeanor completely gone. "We didn't know. If we had known you were the one funding everything, we would have never... we would have treated you differently."
"That’s the problem, Mom," I said, stepping back from her touch and guiding them toward the sofa. "You only treat people with respect when you know they have the power to destroy you. You should have treated me well because I am your daughter. You should have treated Noah well because he is your grandson. Not because of my bank account."
Dad sat down heavily, staring at the floor. "Claire, the company is my entire life's work. If Vanguard calls in that five-million-dollar loan, Voss Logistics will go bankrupt by Friday. Eric’s personal debts are tied to his corporate shares. He’ll lose his house. His kids will be kicked out of their school."
"He should have thought about that before he handed my son a dry hotdog to remind him 'where he belongs,' Dad," I said coldly, leaning against the kitchen counter. "For years, you watched him belittle me. You watched Mom take money from my emergency fund to buy luxury bags while Noah and I lived in a modest two-bedroom apartment. You stayed quiet because it was easier than confronting your golden boy."
"We were wrong," Dad whispered, a tear escaping his eye. "I was weak, Claire. I’m sorry. What do you want? Name your terms. Just save the company."

I looked over at Noah, who had stopped playing with his Legos and was watching us quietly. I knew exactly what I wanted.
"I will waive the immediate loan repayment on one condition," I said, my voice cutting through the room like steel. "Eric is permanently banned from the corporate premises. He receives no severance, no stock options, and no financial support from the company. I will take over as CEO myself. And Mom... you are going to publicly apologize to Noah, on your knees, right now."
