Chapter 10 - The Master of Our Own Destiny

Back inside the museum, the string quartet struck up a gentle, uplifting melody, blending with the laughter and chatter of people who built things that mattered—people who healed the sick, engineered solutions, and lived with absolute integrity.

Standing there on the terrace with my daughter in my arms, I looked out over the skyline of Miami, feeling the cool ocean breeze brush against my face.

The events at the Royal Palms Resort had tried to diminish us, to make us feel small, out of place, and unworthy in a room built on superficial vanity. Instead, they had acted as a catalyst—stripping away the rot of a corrupt corporate regime, exposing the fragility of false power, and returning Vanguard Medical Systems to the hands of those who truly believed in its founding mission.

My father had left me sixty-four percent of a company. But more importantly, he had left me the moral clarity to know that authority is a responsibility, not a weapon; that integrity is the only currency that never loses its value; and that true dignity requires no artificial spotlight.

I pulled Zoey close, kissing the top of her head as we turned back toward the warm, welcoming lights of the celebration inside.

We hadn't broken any rules that night in the grand ballroom. We had simply walked into a room full of people wearing masks—and by the time the sun rose twenty-four hours later, those masks had all turned to dust.
