Chapter 6 - A Beautiful Sunrise

One year later.
The backyard of the Whitmore townhouse was bathed in the warm, golden light of a summer afternoon. Bunting hung from the trees, and the sound of soft laughter and children’s music filled the air. It was Ethan’s first birthday party.
Little Ethan, now a chubby, healthy toddler with bright blue eyes and a laugh that could light up a room, was sitting on a blanket in the grass, happily smashing a small birthday cake with his hands. There were no signs of the fragile baby who had fought for his breath in a plastic box a year ago. He was thriving, a living miracle.
Hannah stood on the porch, watching him with a radiant, peaceful smile. She looked beautiful, the color fully restored to her cheeks, her eyes sparkling with happiness.
Caleb walked up behind her, wrapping his arms securely around her waist and pulling her back against his chest. He rested his chin on her shoulder, watching their son together.
"He looks exactly like you when he smiles," Caleb murmured, kissing her cheek.
"Thankfully, he got your determination," Hannah laughed softly, leaning back into his warmth. "He doesn't give up on anything, especially when he wants extra snacks."
The past year hadn't been easy. There had been months of physical therapy for Hannah, emotional healing for both of them, and a highly publicized trial that ended with Lorraine being sentenced to a lengthy prison term with absolutely no possibility of parole. But through the storm, their marriage hadn't just survived—it had become unbreakable.
Dr. Ethan Brooks, now a close family friend, walked over to the toddler, handing him a toy airplane and laughing as Ethan immediately tried to eat it.
"Look at them," Hannah said softly, her voice filled with deep contentment. "A year ago, I thought I was losing everything at 35,000 feet. I thought the silence meant I was all alone."

Caleb tightened his grip around her, his voice fierce with love. "You will never be alone again, Hannah. I promise you, for every missed call from that night, I will give you a lifetime of answers. Every single day."
Ethan looked up from his cake, letting out a loud, joyous squeal as he pointed toward his parents. Hannah and Caleb stepped down from the porch together, walking hand-in-hand into the bright, beautiful sunshine, leaving the shadows of the past completely behind them.
