Chapter 2 - The Confrontation

Caleb stood up slowly, stepping out of his mother’s reach. The sheer coldness radiating from him made Lorraine freeze mid-step.

"What are you talking about, mother?" Caleb asked, his voice dangerously low, entirely devoid of emotion.

Lorraine smoothed her skirt, casting a disdainful glance at Dr. Brooks, who was watching her with undisguised disgust. "Oh, Caleb, don't be naive. I went to check on Hannah two days ago, and I found her behaving completely hysterically. And then, this... man," she pointed a manicured finger at Dr. Brooks, "showed up at the house, sneaking around. Hannah has been deceitful from the beginning. I tried to protect you. I even took her phone so she couldn't call her little accomplice back."

"You took her phone," Caleb repeated, his voice cracking. He held up Hannah’s phone, the screen still showing the photo Lorraine had taken and the text message she had sent. "You took her phone while she was bleeding to death. You blocked her doctor from saving our child. And then you sent me this."

Lorraine’s face paled slightly, but her arrogance quickly returned. "I did what any mother would do! She was manipulating you, Caleb! She’s not right for this family. I gave you an opportunity to see her true colors!"

"The only true colors I see right now are yours," Caleb said, his voice rising, drawing the attention of the hospital security guards. "Hannah called me seventeen times. She begged you for help. You looked at a pregnant woman in agony, a woman carrying your own grandson, and you decided to use her blood to frame a scandal."

"Caleb, how dare you speak to me that way! I am your mother!" Lorraine shrieked, her facade completely crumbling into ugly malice. "She is a nobody! She came from nothing! She took you away from me, and she’s probably lying about the baby being yours anyway!"

"Get out," Caleb whispered.

"What?"

"GET OUT!" Caleb roared, the sound echoing through the entire wing of the hospital. Security guards immediately stepped forward, placing themselves between Caleb and Lorraine. "If you ever come near my wife, my son, or myself again, I will have you arrested. I am stripping you of every dime of financial support I give you. You are dead to me, Lorraine. Now get out before I let the police handle what you did to my family tonight."

Lorraine stared at her son, realizing for the first time that she had lost completely. Her grand plan to isolate Caleb and rid him of Hannah had backfired entirely. With a bitter snort, she turned on her heel and hurried out of the hospital, pursued by the heavy glares of the staff.

But as the doors closed behind her, Caleb collapsed into a chair, the anger draining from him, leaving only sheer terror. He looked at Dr. Brooks. "Please. Let me see my wife."
