Chapter 6 - The Light We Choose

One year later.
The summer sun shone brilliantly over the green lawns of the Holloway estate in Greenwich. White flower arches wrapped around the marble pillars of the garden terrace, while gentle sea breezes drifted in from the Long Island Sound.
A small, intimate gathering of close friends, family, and security staff sat in the white rows of chairs set up along the lawn.
At the altar stood Grant Holloway, looking impossibly handsome in a black tuxedo. Beside him stood Marcus Vance, serving as his best man.
The violin quartet began to play a soft, romantic melody.
Walking down the aisle, holding a flower basket filled with pink rose petals, was eight-year-old Lily. She wore a beautiful white dress, her right ear completely healed, her face glowing with pure, radiant happiness.
Behind her walked Claire Bennett.
She was breathtaking in an off-the-shoulder lace bridal gown, her brown hair styled with fresh white orchids, holding a bouquet of lily-of-the-valley flowers.
As she walked toward the altar, her eyes never left Grant's face.
When she reached him, Grant took both of her hands in his, his heart full to bursting.
"One year ago," the officiant began, his voice carrying over the quiet lawn, "a terrible storm brought two souls together in the darkest hour of the night. But what started as a moment of medical crisis became a union built on courage, truth, and an enduring love."
When it came time for the vows, Grant looked deeply into Claire's eyes.
"Claire," Grant said, his deep voice thick with emotion. "For three years, I lived in a house full of silence. I thought my job as a father was just to build walls high enough to keep the world away from my daughter. But you showed up in a dark ER room, looked past the blinding lights, and taught me that true protection isn't about walls... it's about opening your heart to the people who heal you."
Tears slipped down Claire’s cheeks as she smiled up at him.
"Grant," Claire replied softly. "I spent years running from the shadows of my past, believing that being invisible was the only way to be safe. But you showed me that I didn't need to hide anymore. You gave me a home, a family, and a love so strong that no shadow can ever touch it again."
"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the officiant declared. "You may kiss the bride!"
Grant pulled Claire into his arms, dipping her slightly as he pressed his lips against hers in a long, passionate kiss that brought the entire audience to their feet in thunderous applause.
Lily ran up to them, jumping into their arms, wrapping her tiny hands around both of their necks.
Grant picked up his daughter with one arm while keeping his other arm tightly around his new wife, holding his entire world close against his heart.

As the sun began to set over the Connecticut hills, casting a warm, golden light across the estate, there were no more shadows, no more hidden fears, and no more silent pain.
Only the bright, beautiful light of a family made whole forever.
