Chapter 4 - The Breach at Midnight

The estate’s emergency lockdown system activated instantly. Heavy steel security shutters slammed down over the massive glass windows, sealing the mansion into an impenetrable fortress.

Red emergency lights pulsed along the ceiling corridors, while the sound of suppressed gunfire echoed from the outer grounds.

"They're using heavy breaching equipment!" Marcus reported over his tactical radio, standing near the foyer with four heavily armed estate guards. "It’s a corporate hit squad! Ten men, thermal gear, military-grade hardware!"

Inside the reinforced panic room behind the library, Lily was sitting on a plush sofa, holding her stuffed ladybug tightly, her eyes wide with fear.

Claire was kneeling beside her, holding the little girl’s hands, whispering comforting words to keep her calm. "It's okay, Lily. It's just a loud storm outside. Your dad is going to take care of it."

Grant stepped into the panic room, wearing a tactical vest over his dress shirt, carrying a customized black sidearm. He looked at Claire, his face set in stone.

"Stay in here with Lily," Grant commanded. "The door is four-inch solid titanium. Once I seal it from the outside, nobody gets in without my biometric code."

Claire stood up, grabbing Grant’s arm before he could turn away. "Grant... don't go out there. They're after me. If I give myself up—"

"Shut up, Claire," Grant interrupted softly, but with absolute authority. He looked down at her hand on his arm, then met her eyes. "You think I'm going to let some corporate mercenaries take the woman who saved my daughter? You don't know me very well yet."

He reached out, his hand gently cupping the side of her neck, his thumb brushing over her cheekbone. "Keep Lily safe. I'll be back in ten minutes."

Before Claire could reply, Grant stepped out of the panic room and slammed the titanium door shut. The heavy locks engaged with a deep, echoing thunk.

Out in the grand hallway, three masked mercenaries in black tactical gear broke through the second-floor balcony window, rappelling down onto the marble floor.

They never had a chance.

Grant Holloway wasn't just a corporate billionaire. Before founding Holloway Maritime, he had served six years as an officer in the US Navy Special Warfare Command.

Moving through his own house like a shadow, Grant engaged the intruders with lethal, terrifying speed.

Pop! Pop! Pop!

Three precise shots ended the breach in the grand hallway before the mercenaries even registered where the fire was coming from.

Grant moved toward the main foyer, where Marcus and the estate security team had pinned the remaining attackers against the front courtyard pillars.

At the head of the mercenary team stood Julian Moreau—the thirty-eight-year-old son of Arthur Moreau and the chief operating officer of Moreau Bio-Medical. He wore a heavy wool coat, holding a silenced pistol, his face twisted in desperate rage.

"Holloway!" Julian screamed over the sound of alarms. "Hand over the nurse! She has corporate trade secrets belonging to my father! You're harboring a federal fugitive!"

Grant walked out onto the front stone terrace, stepping into the glaring spotlights of his security vehicles. He held his gun at his side, his dark gray eyes devoid of any human warmth.

"She isn't a fugitive, Julian," Grant’s voice boomed across the courtyard like thunder. "She’s the chief medical officer of my new bio-tech division. And you just committed armed invasion on private property."

Julian spat on the stone floor. "You think your money protects you, Holloway? My father owns judges in three states! We'll tear this house down!"

"You won't get the chance," Marcus said, stepping out from the side garden with four local Greenwich tactical police units backing him up, their red laser sights pinned directly onto Julian's chest. "The state police just seized your getaway vehicles at the gate."

Julian looked around, realizing in a single horrifying second that he had walked into a trap. He dropped his weapon onto the stone driveway, his hands trembling as the tactical officers tackled him to the ground.

Grant turned his back on the arrest, stepping back inside his house without giving Julian another glance.

"Clear the grounds," Grant ordered Marcus flatly. "And bring me my phone. I have a call to make to the Director of the FBI."
